Nature in Winter

For the past month or so, we Winnipeggers have been treated with gorgeous mild weather. The children have enjoyed piling up the little snow we have to create a snowman, watching the water dripping from the climber, and complaining of being "too hot" and taking off their mitts or hats. One day last week the children were moving our tree stumps around the play yard when one of the logs dropped and split in half. It was a teaching moment to observe what the elements can do to cause things to rot, and break.
We were in for a much larger science discovery, however, as one child excitedly shouted "Look! There's a spider in the log!" Sure enough, a very small black spider was slowly and sleepily crawling around the holes in the half of the log. Questions arose as to why he was there? Where did he come from? Where is he going? and Will be bite? It was a perfect oportunity to discuss hibernation, what will happen to the spider, and the cheering when he crawled into a nice warm hole to go back to sleep. No child wanted harm to come to the spider, and they crowded around to enjoy this rare gift from nature.
Now we are back into the deep freeze, but hopefully the children remember our mild weather and our visit from the little spider.

Billing Due Dates and Amounts

Many families have requested the due dates and amounts for upcoming months for child care fees so we are posting them here for your convenience. Feel free to leave post dated cheques, but remember to keep track of when your post dated cheques will run out! The due dates are broken down per billing period per child depending on which program they are in. The school age rates are accurate (based on inservices from Montrose School) until next fall 2012 as we do not have the inservice dates that far ahead (thus TBA).

GO JETS GO!

Well we are definitely in on all the JETS fun here at K.I.D.S. Inc.! There have been many more hockey games played indoors and out along with so many shouts of "I'm Byfuglien or I'm Ladd"! The top of the water table is now the MTS centre and we also have our frozen mini rink to play on the "real ice" as pictured above! Apparently laundry is being done more regularly at the children's homes as they will only wear their "NEW JETS GEAR!" The school age children designed their Jets white out shirts last week and everyone has been dancing regularly to the Jet Rock Anthem! Our preschool children have been learning many hockey facts through stories, songs, games and discussions and some of us have decided to rename our clean up time-ZAMBONI TIME- how much more fun can cleaning be? Well that's it for this first period report. GO JETS GO!
